Sedation Dentistry for Dental Implants and Periodontal Procedures
Sedation dentistry is a very effective solution for people who experience anxiety during periodontal procedures.
We offer a range of techniques and sedation options to help you feel as comfortable as possible. We would be happy to review all the options with you at your appointment.
Anti-anxiety medication taken in office, prior to your appointment, is helpful to patients with mild to moderate anxiety. The most commonly prescribed medication is Triazolam which has a very fast onset. Its benefits include, reduction in anxiety, a feeling of relaxation, and some amnesia (patients having no memory of the procedure).
Intravenous sedation is similar to oral sedation but the medication is delivered directly into the veins. It is recommended for patients with moderate to severe anxiety or for longer more complex procedures. The delivery method brings about a rapid deep state of relaxation and the required dosage can be more precisely controlled. IV sedation is administered in office by a certified Anesthesiologist.
General Anaesthesia (GA)
For patients with severe anxiety or requiring long complex procedures, general anaesthesia is available, also with an in office Anesthesiologist. With this method of sedation patients are completely asleep and will have no memory of the procedure.
